We just recently bought ours and live in Illinois and went to get it licensed. Is there any others out there that are licensed? We know of one but like to find out who else is out there. We are going to hire an attorney to fight this. We were told it can be licensed.
kim, Each state can be different when it comes to these machines. Might try Sunco Motorsports listed in vendors on the forum home page.
They are in Indiana, but may have sold and Licensed in IL.
If your dealer was in IL I would check with them also. You didn't say where you bought it or if it was new. If used was it plated in the other state? That could help as well. Not sure how you were told or how you expect it to be licensed? It may be that you can only get a limited use type plate. It seems some who have them have had no issues using them for road use, but always good to know your states law.
Also Kim I would like to ask if posting questions please stick to one location. Try not to ask this all over the board. Makes it harder for you to go back and find and can also cause people to answer not knowing someone gave the same or similar response elsewhere.
Also it just helps us avoid data waste and help keep the forum organized. People have answered your question and I moved there replies here for keeping on topic.
Hey Kim, I have a Duruxx that I bought from Texas and in Texas they call it a neighborhood vehicle, the equivalent of Illinois low speed vehicle. The problem I ran into is that Illinois has never heard of them or seen them and so they call Springfield and the woman in charge of all of this in Springfield simply goes online and sees people pictures of them off roading and she jumps to the conclusion that it is offroad and that I'm simply trying to pull a fast one with the secretary of state. I've argued and argued and I finally did get someone in the Secretary of state's department to retitle it correctly as a low speed vehicle but then when I went in with the title to order place we went through the whole process again and then they change my title again. This woman's line of thinking is okay so it comes from the manufacturer govern to meet the standards of a low speed vehicle but the governor could be taken off, it could be modified there for we will not title or plate this as a low speed vehicle. My response to that is anything can be modified but I eventually got tired of arguing because my local community allows it to be driven on the street anyways. I'm thinking about going back in to the DMV to argue some more so I'll keep you posted. In the meantime you may consider this...www.dirtlegal.com. call and talk to them, nice guy and he will answer all your questions. he recommended I keep trying to work with the secretary of state and the DMV here in Illinois but I'm still considering using their services. It's kind of expensive but if it gets me street-legal it's worth it.
