I've owned this 2013 Reaper for only about 6 months. Noticing the lack of power compared to what others report, I was curious about the condition of the spark plugs. When I removed him the nodes were pointed and showed a clear sign of detonation. The machine never seem to have the power I hear about other stuff northaire Reapers. Is there a timing adjustment or is there a chance it may have jumped a notch on the Belt.
Hopefully it's a easy fix. I couldn't post the link with my phone but if you go to the Technical section, click on Reeper Parts, go to universal parts and go all the way to the bottom to upgrade parts. I know pretty long and drawn out. Lol the best I can do at the moment. There is a list of the upgraded plugs people have added that is said to be a little hotter and help with power
You may have one of the 2013's that had the throttle restricter under the gas pedal. Have someone mash the throttle down all the way with the engine off of course. Then pull the engine cover and check that the throttle is actually opening all the way at the throttle plate. Someone my not have removed the throttle restricter under the throttle pedal. Only the early models had them from the factory to keep the speed and rpm's down. Check for that first.
Ok, long story short.. The engine jumped time at some point in its 1200 miles. The detonation has destroyed the bottom end of the engine. Lots of metal sludge on the oil plug and metallic glitter in the oil. Compression is 75, 150, 150. I have a dead cylinder. Am I cheaper to buy the parts & rebuild? Or is there a source to buy a whole engine? Suggestions?
I would say that you are in a position that would determine on what you want. Silver Bullet has listed prices on replacement motors. Depending on what damage was done it may be cheaper to rebuild. If your not happy with the performance of the stock motor this is a good opportunity to either beef this one up or upgrade
I'd buy a rod, poston, ring, and bearing for that cylinder that's low and at the sametime order a gasket set for that particular engine, and you may get by without boring the block. Measure bore and see. Check the other pistons and if you see like someone took an ice pick to the top of the pistons you will need to replace as needed. The pre-detonation has more than likely collapsed the top ring land and has the top ring pinched up and will not let it spring back out to seal the bore. Pre-detonation is a bad, bad, bad thing to any engine of any size. I would suggest maybe Silver Bullet for some cheaper prices. Your going to need all the discounts you can find. I didn't see any pistons on Alibaba for the 800cc motor. Just 1100cc. And that would be thru Athenamotorsport's store in China.
Why is it running so rich and to much timing? Does it have a device to move your timing installed aftermarket or did someone flash the computer to do so? Something aint right about this. Is the air filter clogged up and not enough air for the fuel being injected?
I'm actually thinking the belt jumped a notch at some point. Ther is no evidence the cover was ever removed and it idled smooth. I did think it was underpowered, but didn't have anything to compare it to. I think the last straw was a 100 mile road trip running 50-55 put a beating on the rod bearings. After that trip I could hear a bottom engine knock & idle was rough. I changed the oil & it was grey glitter $ the magnetic plug had a 1/2 inch sludge cone stuck to it. I'm hoping to get bu with 1 piston and new rods and mains. The head looks fine. Jonathan
